General Information for Parents

What is Dr. L's Disney Adventure?

Dr. L's Disney Adventure is an educational field trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, for students and the families of students of Dr. Van LeJeune.   Dr. L's Disney Adventure is not a school sponsored trip, but rather a trip for students and their families, organized by Dr. LeJeune, acting as a private individual.  This will be Dr. LeJeune's sixth trip with student groups to Walt Disney World since 1994.

Because Walt Disney World offers so many excellent educational experiences, the Disney company provides special programs for school groups called the Youth Education Series, or Y.E.S..  Our group will attend a Y.E.S. lesson on physics, held at the Magic Kingdom Park.  Dr. L will also lead our group one morning learning about African animals on Kilimangaro Safari at Disney's Animal Kingdom.  Walt Disney World is teeming with educational opportunities around every corner. Students often learn about things they've never dreamed of learning, without even knowing that they are actually learning!  That's the magic of educational experiences at Walt Disney World.  You will find a link to our Disney's YES program on the home page of this web site.

The dates for this trip fall over Spring Break, March 14 - 19, 2008.  Students at Miller Grove will not be in school during this period, so students will not have to miss any school work to participate.

Additional meal tickets are available for a cost of about $12.50
Optinal trip insurance will be available should you be interested.

How much will it cost?

The  trip will cost around $850

In the past, students have brought between $200 and $300 in spending money.
This should be enough if no major souvenirs are bought, and students eat counter service meals in the park or the hotel.

What if other family members want to go?

Family members are welcome to come along. Children younger than the 7th grade must be accompanied by a parent at all times. Supervision of children not officially on the YES program is the responsibility of the parent, and not the teacher/sponsor.  Disney allows us to buy 1 extra park ticket at the student price for each paying student.  There will probably be plenty of student-priced tickets available if adults in the family want to go.

Accompanying our group has several advantages over booking your own trip.  Firstly, since our group is affiliated with the YES program, park admission is considerably cheaper.  A regular Park Hopper ticket with the Water Parks and More option is normally $310.  Our special pricing saves you about $164 per ticket (more than half off).  If we are able to get enough travelers to book 10 or more rooms, we also get a 10% discount on hotel costs as well.  Check with Dr. LeJeune for an estimate for your family.

Besides the lessons, what else will students do?

For the majority of the trip, students will be able to explore the wonders of Walt Disney World's 4 theme parks and 2 water parks.  The theme parks are the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Studios, and Animal Kingdom.  The  water parks are Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.  Generally speaking, Walt Disney World is a very safe place.  Security is excellent in the parks and at the resorts.  We will be using Disney Transportation between parks and staying at at a Disney resort.

On previous student trips to Walt Disney World, students in small groups have been allowed to explore the parks independently, checking in by cell phone at pre-determined times throughout the day.  This has worked very well, with no problems in the past.  If you choose, however, your student can accompany an adult chaperone around the parks.  Dr. and Mrs. LeJeune are excellent tourguides, and go to every park and ride nearly every ride.  If a student stays with an adult chaperone, they will have an excellent experience.
